The other side of Heaven
So... 8th of March. 2007. I got a gorgeous bouquet of amaryllis and a few other things that go well with the Belgian beer. I also got other flowers with names I do not know (What's in a name? that which we call a rose / By any other name would smell as sweet. .). Anyway, was a good day. Done a 4 km walk in town, listening to an audio book about negotiation and meditated a bit about how everything in life is negotiable.
I was talking the other day with a friend about people that are staying in relationships for all sorts of reasons which for us seemed, at the moment, unreasonable. Now, a few days older and about to come out of what Romanians call "astenia de primavara" (spring neurasthenia) I am thinking that maybe we were jumping to conclusions. If everything in life is negotiable and we negotiate every bit of our lives, then maybe what appears to be a struggling relation might be in fact the unwanted result of a negotiation that went bad. Or maybe is just a negotiation in progress. Who are we to judge the deepest fears of the human soul? A survey about people's greatest fears reveled that we are not afraid as much of dieing as we are of being ridiculed, being out there alone in the public eye. So maybe staying in a relationship is just a way of being safe and protected - because, in our still traditional society, who dares to criticize the family values?! A relationship is, in the end, creating a family. So being in a relation that meets the public approval is being in a family. A family is still the corner stone of our society. Who would dare to shake that rock?!
And here is a photo with the foundation on which the building of rocks is put on: silly little things and flowers for the 8th of March. We love them, don't we? ;-)
